Randy Crump, Senior Associate for Prism Technical, is pleased to provide occasional commentary for the Daily Reporter Newspaper. The column is entitled "The Minority Report". View past articles by clicking on the links below: What can Brown do for You? - Appeared May 27, 2004 - The article celebrates the importance of the Brown v Board of Education case, settled 50 years earlier. Progress, although slow, does not undermine the importance of education for minority people because education is the key to economic prosperity. Black people are from Mars - Appeared Apr 22, 2004 - The article seeks to poke fun at the fact that local radio talk show hosts seem to think black voters choose candidates for no reason other than the fact that they're black, while whites vote for the right candidates - even though they happen to also be white. Is There Enough Room at the Bottom? Appeared Mar 25, 2004 - The article seeks to point out the large number of majority firms that are attempting to be certified as DBE, while most legitimate minority and women owners would rather shed the "embarrassing" descriptor.
The Mayor's 'Race' Appeared Mar 2, 2004 - The column probes race relations in Milwaukee and questions whether or not city residents can break free of racial misunderstandings and segregation that has existed in Milwaukee since the 50's, also known as the "Happy Days" era. Say Cheese Appeared Jan 22, 2004 - This article addresses the large number of minority (and women) firms, many of which were thought to have "the right stuff - financially and managerially" and coming from various ethnicities (African American, Native American and Hispanic) that have come and gone over recent years. The article questions why, here in Wisconsin, we can't seem to keep these firms alive. Are We Done Yet? The first article written and published in the Daily Reporter appeared Dec 31, 2003 (Online) and January 2, 2004 in print. This article addresses the need for those charged with helping unemployed and/or underemployed people find meaningful jobs to get serious about resolving the problems. In so many words, Randy points out that if the condition of being underemployed were an illness, we all would have asked long ago, why are we still sick and what are we doing to correct the situation?
