Inspiring Our Future

OVER 600 MPS STUDENTS EXPOSED TO ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION-TRADE CAREERS...

In celebration of National Engineering Week, Grandesco Solutions, Inc. a non-profit arm of Prism Technical hosted over 600 students at three events that took place Thursday, Feb. 16th, Tuesday, Feb. 21st and Thursday, Feb. 23rd. Through partnerships and generous sponsorship dollars, 8th - 12th grade students participated in various events to inspire more at-risk students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM.

These events would not be possible without the partnership and generous sponsorship dollars from Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee Public Schools, Bucks, MSOE, American Transmission Co., Mortenson Construction, JF Ahern, Populous, We Energies, Pieper Electric, HNTB and Zoe Engineering.

ENGINEER THE FUTURE - Feb. 16, 2017

In November of 2016, over 200 MPS high schools students built mini replicas of the Milwaukee Bucks arena. The Engineer the Future event introduced students to construction trades and engineering careers. Click here to view the replica building event. Prism and Grandesco Solutions had the opportunity to invite the schools who participated in the replica building activity to see a private viewing of the movie, "Hidden Figures", and participate in a career panel following the movie. The panelists included, Daphne Wilson of Zoe Engineering, Randy Crump of Prism Technical, Devon Ellis of Ellis Engineering and Todd Williams who attends UWM and is a current student in the Regional Internships in Science & Engineering sponsored by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. The movie and panel discussion was used as a tool to build off the students’ experience at the Engineer the Future event to educate and empower them to examine history, civics, and science as it relates to allowing them to create successful pathways for career and personal development.

ENGINEERED2SUCCEED - Feb. 21, 2017

Engineered2Succeed, an event specifically held for young men in 5th-8th grade to meet and learn about engineering careers from male engineers and explore activities related to STEM careers. The event took place on Tuesday, February 21st at North Division High School in Milwaukee, WI from 9:00 am-1:30 pm. Over 125 young men learned about construction trade and engineering related careers and participated in hands-on activities to spark inspiration to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related careers.

Girl Day - Feb. 23, 2017

Over 200 5th - 8th girls from seven MPS schools attended the 2017 "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" (Girl Day). The young women viewed the movie, Hidden Figures, followed by a rocket launch activity. During the rocket launch activity, the girls worked together to build their own rockets and launch them outside. The annual event exposes young girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). It is hoped that continued exposure will not only spark interest, but motivate our young scholars to go into STEM-related careers and fill the void of women in STEM jobs and jump start innovation right here in the Greater Milwaukee area.
